Before The Goats Went Grazing

HAVE THE FARMERS ALWAYS BEEN GOAT CRAZY?

It's true.....the farmers are known to dance with their goats, sing with their goats, and nap with their goats, but have they always been this goat crazy? Nah. There was a time when they probably couldn't have told you if they were looking at a goat or a sheep......or even a gazelle.

THE FARMERS' LOVE STORY

It's a story for the ages. One that will be told for years to come. The 2 farmers first locked eyes while cruising "O" Street in Lincoln, NE. Their first date.....sitting in Farmer Josh's fancy green pickup truck in the Super Saver parking lot. A couple months later, they were engaged!!! Less than a year later, they were married!!!!! What??? How will this marriage last? They don't even know each other. Guess what naysayers....they're still going strong.....15 years of marriage later. And still madly in love.

TRYING TO FIND THEIR HAPPILY EVER AFTER

After their first couple years of marriage in Lincoln, NE, they made the big move to Farmer Jessi's hometown, Grand Island, NE. Farmer Josh was doing what he loved, being a dirty dirty diesel mechanic, fishing, and loving life. Farmer Jessi was just kind of stumbling through life....almost lost. Consumed by depression, social anxiety, and anxiety, she put on a happy face and dealt with her days one day at a time. But something wasn't right. When the opportunity arose, to make the move to Kentucky(would be closer to Farmer Josh's mom and dad), they decided to take the leap! Who would've thought two city kids would find their calling in the bluegrass state?

NOW WHAT? WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

It's 2008, in a new home, in a new state, with the closest friend/relative being 2 and a half hours away. What now? The farmers were loving their little piece of heaven in central Kentucky. Very quiet, great weather, yes, the people were stranger than they were used to, but all in all....a great place. So, how do these goats come into the picture? You all can thank Farmer Josh's mom. It was she that started this whirlwind adventure. She had wanted goats for awhile, but had enough on her plate with all of her own animals, so she handed over her goat handbook. Farmer Jessi dove right into that book. Convinced that they needed two goats to mow down their 10 acres of grass, they began their hunt.....for goats!!!!!!

LET'S DO THIS THING!!!

With only their knowledge from their goat handbook, they scoured the newspapers and internet to find a couple of goats. Farmer Jessi had a spinal fusion in 2008, so they decided miniature goats were the way to go. Easier to handle and take care of, right? Hah. When at last.....in the local newspaper........the ad appeared: Pygmy Goat Kids For Sale!!!!!! That was it! The hunt was over!!!! They read a book, so they must've been ready to go....right??? Surrrrrrrre.

And so it began.....................

We hope you enjoy this little glimpse into our lives. If you want to hear what kind of madness happened next, stay tuned for our next blog.
